What is Rotaract?

Rotaract stands for "Rotary in Action" and is a world-wide, Rotary-based, not-for-profit organisation, filled with volunteers, that participates in community and international service to assist those less fortunate or worthy causes. As of April 2011, there were around 195 040 members, in 8480 Rotaract clubs, in 171 countries, and it 516 districts.

The first Rotaract club was chartered on 13 March 1968 in North Charlotte, North Carolina, USA by Rotary International, as a Rotary youth program, but has now become an independant group.

It is open to people between the ages of 18 and 30 years old and the clubs organise and carry out events that individuals are interested in.

Rotaract Club of Dubbo City Inc. meets every 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, 6.30 for 7 pm start at 178 Restaurant (Dubbo RSL Memorial Club). The dinner meals cost $17, which includes a two-course meal and bread roll (drinks are extra).

The Goals of Rotaract:

  • To develop professional and leadership skills
  • To emphasise and respect the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual.
  • To recognise the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve.
  • To recognise, practice, and promote ethical standards as leadership qualities and vocational responsibilities.
  • To develop knowledge and understanding of the needs, problems and opportunities in the community and worldwide.
  • To provide opportunities for personal and group activities to serve the community and promote international understanding and goodwill toward all people.

What the club aims to achieve:

Professional development - leadership, communication, organisation, delegation, team-work

Community service - assist other Rotary clubs with clean-ups; join other organisations and conduct a barbecue; sell merchandise for Starlight Foundation; participate in Relay For Life; help out at the 4WD Fish, Camping and Boat Show

International Service - sponsors a student and teacher at School of St Judes

Club/Social - conduct social meetings every couple of months, where members can have fun and develop their friendships while participating in games of ten-pin bowling, laser squirmish, tennis. Some members also go to the Monkey Bar from 5.30 pm on Friday nights for drinks, relax and catch-up. These are also a great way to meet new potential members.
